Amblyopia

Amblyopia is one of the types of diseases that affect the human and animal eyes alike, and it is a weakness of a certain amount in the strength of the patient's eyes, because the vision did not develop completely and naturally from early childhood onwards as the growth of the corneal and retinal tissues stops when  Given time;  Because of this stopping growth, the brain ignores the image that this affected eye transmits in a form of laziness, and the cases of amblyopia are equivalent to about 4% of people.

And with the question of Dr. Muhammad Hantira - Honorary Assistant Professor - Ophthalmology Department - Umm Al-Qura University - Saudi Arabia
It was explained to us that in a normal person, both eyes have the same visual ability, so their visual ability is approximately equal, which is very important ٬ and the importance of having normal vision in the other eye, in the event that one eye is lost, the other can play the role of vision completely.  Sometimes some professions and jobs require good vision and adequate vision in both eyes, and therefore attention must be paid to discovering and treating cases of functional laziness as soon as possible.  To avoid negative effects resulting from it.

 Dr. Hantereh noted:
The signs of amblyopia appear from an early age, so parents should be careful to notice this visual problem.  In order for the child to continue his life normally, and to avoid any consequences that may result from it.

 Dr. Hanatera advised:
That this can be done through visual detection by pediatricians or ophthalmologists at or before reaching the age of three, this may allow identification of the problem if there are no clear indications, and doctors advise to examine the child's eyesight before reaching the age of three if there is one of the children of the family  Cataract suffered, or myopia cases at an early age, or there was a type of hereditary squints in the family, or one of the family members had squint, or any serious eye disease.

 Causes of amblyopia
Amblyopia is due in many cases to several reasons, including:
•    Strabismus, especially strabismus due to genetic causes.
•    Myopia, farsightedness, or astigmatism.
•    In addition to the cataract or loosening of the eyelid, or other things that may impede vision.
It is clear that any reason obstructs vision naturally represents a direct cause of amblyopia.

 Diagnosis of amblyopia
 Dr. Hantira explained:
The diagnosis of amblyopia is done through a simple examination that the ophthalmologist performs to find out the difference between the capabilities of vision between both eyes, and it must be made clear that the weakness of the ability to see in one of the eyes may not indicate that these signs are a sign of the presence of laziness in one of the eyes.  This is not clear by microscopic examination, which the ophthalmologist performs in examining the internal parts of the eye.

 Treatment of amblyopia
 Dr. Hantereh explained:
The process of treating amblyopia depends on the child's ability to use his lazy eye in vision by following the following steps:
•    Focus on using the affected eye by covering the healthy eye and repeating this process several times in a row per day, or as the doctor sees it.
•    Using medical glasses that help correct vision, whether long or short sighted.
•    Deceiving the child to use the amblyopia more by placing lenses or points inside the good eye that blurs its vision;  He is forced to rely on his injured eye.
